Favorite Lines

As per the rules I have given myself, I must pick one favorite line from each post (which may include more than one chapter). Here is a list from the chapters I’ve read so far.


  • 1:2: “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
  • 2:6: “But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.”
  • 3:4: “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die.”
  • 4:11: “And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand.”
  • 5:23-24: “And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.”
  • 6:5-6: “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.”
  • 7:22: “All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died.”
  • 8:9: “But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.”
  • 9:21-22: “And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.”
  • 10:32: “These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.”
  • 11:6: “Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.”
  • 12:18-19: “What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife? Why saidst thou, She is my sister?”
  • 14:23: “I will not take from [you] a thread even to a shoelatchet, …lest thou should say, ‘I have made Abram rich.'”
  • 15:5: “And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.”
  • 16:6: “And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.”
  • 17:17: “Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?”
